What is Dolomite? Is it used only for tomato plants?

Dolomite is a source of calcium and magnesium and can be used for any plant, although it is critical for healthy tomatoes and other "seeded" vegetables. Dolomite should be used for all "seeded" vegetables since they need a lot of calcium in order to produce healthy fruit. It is also used to raise the pH of the potting mix since peat is very acidic.

Liquid fertilizers defeat the purpose of the FarmDaddy® Self Watering Garden Container as nutrients are not provided on a constant stable basis. An occasional shot of liquid fertilizer, in addition to the fertilizer strip, is okay, but not necessary.

Can you give me any special tips on growing tomatoes?

Add 1 cup of Dolomite (Calcium Magnesium Carbonate) and mix into the top 3 inches of potting mix. Tomatoes produce healthy fruit in abundant quantities when grown in slightly acidic soil. Tomatoes prefer rich organic matter with sufficient amounts of calcium and magnesium. Dolomite helps to adjust the soil pH to the correct level. It also facilitates the availability of soil nutrients to plant roots.
